MDdatacor Launches Emergency Room Portal

Hospital Emergency Rooms to be Equipped with Online Patient Medical Information

Atlanta, GA (April 17, 2007) – MDdatacor, inc., a leading health care information technology company that supports pay-for-performance, physician-centric disease management and portable electronic health record programs, today announced the expansion of its solution to include an emergency room portal. The new Web-based emergency care tool, powered by MDdatacor’s proprietary technology, provides critical patient information (medications, diagnosis, procedures, and other supportive clinical information) to emergency room clinicians and care givers.

“The greatest impact to health care delivery is made by providing patient-specific information to clinicians and care givers at the point of care,” said co-founder, president and chief executive officer, Timothy Roche. “By making patient medical histories available in the ER, we are placing actionable information in the clinicians’ hands that can significantly impact clinical outcomes, reduce medical errors and lower health care costs.”

The emergency care tool is designed to assist emergency room clinicians and care givers in treating incoming patients safely and effectively by providing patient specific information when the member approves. Each time a patient visits the emergency room and provides the appropriate consents, the clinician will have access the patient’s pharmacy claims, diagnosis and procedure codes which will assist in reducing medical errors in the hospital.

Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa and Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa, Inc. members will be among the first to benefit from this innovation starting this spring, when MDdatacor and Wellmark install portals in three Iowa hospitals. This initiative is part of Wellmark’s Collaboration on Qualitysm program to promote improved efficiency and performance in the delivery of health care.

According to Joel Hasenwinkel, director, Clinical Collaboration for Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, “When a member authorizes access to this data, clinicians are provided a more complete history of the patient in a time-sensitive care setting. Providing clinicians with access to this information is just one more example of how Wellmark is working with our network clinicians and facilities to support their efforts to improve their care delivery”.
